What We're Building
JLever Espresso exists to bring speed, simplicity, exceptional taste, and a lighter footprint to the world of home espresso. We want it to be easy for anyone to make café quality espresso at home using freshly ground beans purchased from a local specialty roaster of their choice.
Why We're Building It
Manual lever espresso machines are loved for the cup quality they can produce, but the barrier has always been the physical effort of pulling shot after shot over the long term. We designed a highly leveraged unit so that the physical effort is greatly reduced, making daily use comfortable rather than tiring.
Traditional espresso requires a lot of expertise. "Dialling in" specifically requires the user to understand how grind size, basket type, dose, headspace, puck distribution, and tamp pressure all affect shot timings and coffee taste. For a beginner, this is months of practice before the cup is reliably good. We designed our VFiPP extraction technology to remove most of those variables from the user's hands, so that it's easier to achieve a high-extraction, repeatable espresso shot as a basis for their coffee drink.

We are committed to lowering the barriers to entry for café quality espresso at home: less physical effort, less guesswork, fewer disposables, and high extraction efficiency.
Resource Usage Footprint
Coffee bean production, as well as large espresso machines, are carbon and resource intensive. Our products are built to tread lightly. The JLeverX uses a minimum of materials, which keeps embodied carbon low, and it is serviceable and easy to repair for longevity. The high-extraction basket and high water temperatures are tuned for extraction efficiency, which means more solutes in the cup per gram of bean used. And because our VFiPP technology removes most of the dial-in process, the waste from dialling in a new bean drops significantly.
